Week of Many Firsts!

The past week or two has been a busy one for Nathan as far as milestones are concerned. It seemed like he was doing something new every day since turning 6 months old and it's been exciting to observe him growing so much.

First, we added another solid feeding and introduced vegetables - yummy green beans! Actually, Nate didn't like it to much and made the cutest little frown and shuddered once or twice after each bite. Thankfully, he didn't spit it out and continued to open his mouth for more, although it took a good five or six bites before he stopped frowning. By the way, I realized that there's really nothing solid about the food that we're giving him since it's all pretty fluid. However, the bowel movements are definitely much more "solids" with the vegetables. The first time he had a bowel movement after eating vegetables, he fussed and even cried a bit. It was so sad to see the little guy straining and crying. He's been okay since and hasn't shed any more tears but the cute, red-faced, half-smile straining facial expression is here to stay. Here is a picture of Nate right after he was done with the first "solid" bowel movement. Poor little guy! Nate, we love you so much and sorry that it wasn't a plesant experience!

We also started giving him a sippy cup so that he can get familiar with it. We weren't sure if he would do with it since he's refused to drink from a bottle but he's done surprisingly well. He even manage to get sips out of the cup after just a few tries and by the second day, he figured out how to hold onto the handle and put the spout into his mouth. He doesn't know how to tilt the bottle up to get the fluid out so we still need to tilt the bottle for him for the time being.

Nate is also sitting up on his own now! He's been trying to sit up on his own for a while and would do okay supporting his body with his arms out in front of him but he's always tettered and fallen pretty quickly. But it just all clicked for him one day and he's sitting well unsupported now. He can even hold or chew his toys,  grab his toes while he sits, or turn to look around the room without falling over. We're so proud of him!

Lastly, we recently took Nate to his doctor's office for his 6-month checkup. We were able to get the various 6-month stats as well. He maintained the same percentiles for height and head circumference but measured lower in weight. Brandon and I were a bit concerned because his eating hasn't been great lately but the doctor didn't seemed overly concerned about it and suggested that we maintain the same amount of dosage for his acid medication. Here are his stats:

6 months (Date 5/13/2010)
Weight measurement - 16 lb 9 oz.
Weight percentile - 25-50%
Height measurement –  27 1/4 in
Height percentile - 75%
Head circumference measurement –  44 cm
Head circumference percentile – 50%
