Celebrating Two Months: Part 1

Nathan is already two months today! Where has the time gone! I feel like he’s going to be all grown up before we know it and I want to treasure every moment with him. Thankfully as a SAHM, I get to do just that! Well, we wanted to recap some highlights from the past two months of Nate’s life. Since it's rather long, we'll post it in two parts.

Week One

Nate was born on Friday, 13 November, 2009 after 20 hours of labor. We had an induction scheduled for Sunday, 15 November so we were glad that Nate decided to come out on his own. He cried pretty hard and the nurses even commented that he had very good lungs. He had the best quiver lip as well.

After Nate arrived, my parents came from NY to stay with us for a week. It was unfortunate that we had to go back into the hospital for 2 days to have Nate treated for jaundice and they didn’t get to spend as much time as they had hoped with Nate. Whenever they were with Nate, however, they showered him with love and took HUNDREDS of pictures of him.

We began swaddling Nate when we put him down to sleep. This was a challenge at first because Nate usually managed to wriggle his left arm free. It made Brandon wonder if Nate might be a lefty like him. Grandpa Kim thought that would be nice and said that Nate could play first base or be a left-handed pitcher. Grandpa Kim is really looking forward to playing baseball with Nate someday!

Weeks Two/Three

After Grandma and Grandpa Kim left, it was time for Nate to meet the Averill side of the family. Grandma and Grandpa Averill and Aunt Jo came from Little Rock, AR and Aunt Christy came from Birmingham, AL. It was definitely a blessing to be able to spend Thanksgiving with family. And of course, there were even more pictures taken of Nate.

And as for Nate, he really seemed to stare and study our faces when he was awake. He also went from a 2.5-hour to a 3-hour feeding schedule and occasionally would sleep 4 hour stretches at night. Brandon and I were grateful for the extra time to rest.

Week Four

Nate started to coo and smile more socially. Nate also didn’t seem to mind having his diaper changed as much anymore and would even smile and coo at us from the changing table. It also seemed that Nate went through a growth spurt around middle of week four and had to switch using NB size diapers (after about 340 of them!) to size 1 diapers.

Nate also had his nails trimmed for the first time and had his first tub bath. He did wonderfully with both! He seemed a bit surprised and unsure when we first placed him into the water but he took to the water quickly and seems to enjoy his baths now.

We also celebrated Brandon’s birthday the day Nate turned 4 weeks old. We took the opportunity to take Nate out with us to Red Robin (hamburger restaurant) and he slept soundly the whole time we were there!

That's all for month one! Stay tuned for part 2!
